I am very excited to be a part of the GCCAS family, again this year, as a third grade teacher, third grade team facilitator, Blue Zone Coordinator, and Tech Specialist. I am originally from Homestead, Florida and moved to Naples fourteen years ago to attend Ave Maria University. There, I received a Bachelors in Liberal Arts and later received a Master's degree from Grand Canyon University in Elementary Education. I later received a second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. I have twelve years of experience teaching in both Private and Charter schools. Working with kids is truly my passion. I am very excited to meet my new students and to work for such a wonderful school!
My Philosophy of Teaching and Education
As it is mentioned above, this is the start of my twelfth year teaching and I am very excited about it! I have taught in both private and charter school settings. I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and in Educational Leadership. Teaching and working with children is my passion and I know that I have definitely been called to teach.
Through my teaching and educational experiences, I have gained some very important qualities that make up what I believe to be my philosophy of teaching and of education. To start with, I believe that each individual child needs an education that is personalized, caring, and well managed as well as one that includes rich academics that will challenge them to their highest potential. I want all of my students to grow up and accomplish all of their dreams. As a teacher, their success is my top priority. Because of this I believe that it is very important to motivate my students to strive to do their very best at everything they do each day. I must also give them positive encouragement on a daily basis to assistance in their motivation. Nurturing the strengths, interests, and personalities of each student to help them achieve high standards is a very important goal to me in educating them. Eye contact is also very important, and since I work with little kids. I believe that in doing this I should bend down to their level, even if it is as simple as asking them a question while I tie their shoe, I believe eye contact aids in the building of a personal teacher to student relationship. Every child should be addressed on a personal level upon entering into my classroom in the morning, as well as a few times during the day. It is very important for the child to have opportunities of one on one contact with the teacher during the day!
Constant communication with parents also helps aid in the learning experience and development of the child during their duration in my classroom. Because of this I make a point to write on your child’s agenda every day and send home a newsletter every week. I also request that parents/guardians sign the agenda every day so that I know that you have seen it.
I believe that when I aide in teaching a child, I am educating the whole child. I am helping to form each of my students to be tomorrow’s leaders. Because of this, I must set a good example for them to follow. I should always be calm, patient and open. Students are able to learn best when they are in an environment that is safe, respectful, open to differences. Because of this fact, I want to make sure my students our offered an assortment of activities within my classroom. Differentiated instruction is indispensable to the quality of the learning in a diverse classroom. My classroom is very hands on and with the differentiated instruction I offer, I try to make sure every child’s individual learning styles and needs are met. I really love how GCCAS supports this effort and has so many resources and other teachers to help in this endeavor.
I believe that all of these things together help me to define what my role of a teacher is. A teacher is someone who works to stimulate his/her student’s intellect as well as someone who helps that child to develop his/her unique character through implementing high standards of conduct, teamwork, and leadership. It is my goal this year to accomplish all of this with your child.
